Overall, the objectives of the Eco-Schools Programme are to promote environmental awareness and education, encourage action on environmental issues, and empower students to take responsibility for creating positive change in their school and local community. By addressing these 12 themes, the programme aims to promote sustainable development and create a more environmentally responsible generation of young people

Biodiversity & Nature

To increase awareness of the importance of biodiversity and to encourage students to take action to protect and enhance biodiversity in their school and local community.

Climate Change

To promote awareness of climate change and encourage students to take action to reduce their carbon footprint and mitigate the impacts of climate change.

Energy

To promote energy conservation and efficiency, as well as renewable energy sources.

Food

To promote healthy and sustainable food choices, as well as promoting local and organic food sources.

Global Citizenship

To promote awareness of global issues, such as poverty, inequality, and sustainability, and encourage students to take action to address these issues.

Health & Wellbeing

To promote healthy lifestyles and wellbeing, both for students and for the wider community.

Litter

To reduce litter and waste in the school and local
community, as well as promoting recycling and waste reduction.

Marine & Coast

To promote awareness of the marine environment and encourage students to take action to protect and conserve marine ecosystems.

School Grounds

To improve the school grounds, including the
outdoor environment, and make them more sustainable and
environmentally friendly.

Transport

To promote sustainable modes of transport, such as
cycling and walking, as well as reducing car use.

Waste

To reduce waste and promote recycling, as well as encouraging responsible waste management practices.

Water

To promote water conservation and efficiency, as well as raising awareness of water-related issues.
